Phone/Facebook a Friend

May 12th, 2016

As you know, today’s students live in a world of pernicious posts, trending tweets, ubiquitous URLs, and, of course, viral videos. When I meet a great teacher or learn a new teacher trick, I can’t wait to share it with others. Chances are, you are the same. Technically, aren’t all great teachers just benevolent contagions whose ideas spread and change the future? But, how can we as teachers get our content to go viral. Well, if this sounds interesting to you, you might want to check out Jonah Berger’s book, Contagious. Jonah has identified six  STEPPS that can help you to make your teaching and your content go viral. I have placed the STEPPS below if you are interested.

The Challenge

This year at the conference we thought it might be fun to challenge you to help some great ideas go viral. So if you see something at the conference that triggers an emotion in you, or that provides you with some social currency and makes you want to share it, go ahead and make it public. Share the idea on Facebook, call or text a friend. Let them know what you are learning here at SSTESOL. And then, if you are interested in earning some XP or competing for some of the gamification prizes, have your friend call us and let us know what you shared with them.

***Have your friend call us at 224-358-3765. Have them leave a message telling us your name and what you taught them.

In this space, please share with us what challenge you are working on and then share your links or whatever other information you need to share to earn your XP. If you are challenging a colleague, you may also want to use this space to explain what it is that you are challenging them to do or try. Good Luck!
